Taxis Survive on Credit Cards

This article explains that the "black car" business is down 30% as Wall Street goes broke and goes by credit-card enabled cabs.

By last November, every yellow cab in the city was equipped with a credit card reader.. many corporations that once ordered black cars for their employees have begun telling them instead to take a cab (which costs less) and charge it.

Update: I tried it. I used the card-swipe at JFK and chose a $2 tip. The nice driver had a practiced, polite routine: "Only two dollars tip? Sir? Your credit card costs ME two and a half dollars, so I lose fifty cents. I lose money on this trip. Only two dollars tip?"
